So many of these are dear to my heart and I remember growing up in the church. I love an Advent Hymn – O Come, O Come Emmanuel which is one of my personal Top 5.

  3. Bill says:

Just As I Am Without One Plea? At the Lamb’s High Feast We Sing? Chief of Sinners? I Come, O Savior, to Thy Table? Love Divine, All Loves Excelling? Abide with Me? Come, Thou Fount of ev’ry blessing? Go to dark Gethsemane? What a friend we have in Jesus? My hope is built on nothing less? See This Wonder in the Making?

I love the Lutheran Church so much, but i’m no more a member because of marriage obligation. My favourite song is Hymn 311 in Setswana Hymn Book, namely ” O nkise kwa ke tla utlwang”

  6. Deloris K Sherrill says:

I am trying to find out what hymnal was used in the early 1950s in the American Lutheran Churches. I went to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Middletown, OH.
I would like to buy one for I miss the hymns I grew up singing. Please help me find one.

I can’t say with certainty, but my best guess is that they would have been using the American Lutheran Hymnal (first published in 1930).

Other Lutheran churches at the time were using these hymnals:

      The Lutheran Hymnary (1913)
Common Service Book and Hymnal (1917)
      The Lutheran Hymnal (1941)

  7. Jane says:

    “Amazing Grace”
    “Let Us Break Bread Together”
